More and more companies are looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint and improve operational efficiency. One of the best ways to achieve this is through EDGE certification. In this blog, we explore the main advantages of certifying corporate offices with EDGE and explain how this standard can transform your workspaces.
Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) is an international certification that allows buildings to demonstrate their energy, water, and materials efficiency. Through innovative design solutions, EDGE helps offices reduce resource consumption — benefiting the environment and also improving profitability and productivity.
One of the greatest benefits of certifying an office with EDGE is the significant reduction in operational costs. With a focus on energy efficiency, it enables companies to reduce their electricity, water, and other resource consumption — translating into lower bills and ongoing savings over time.
EDGE certification focuses on energy efficiency and creating healthy workspaces. Indoor air quality is fundamental to employee well-being, so it ensures offices have adequate ventilation systems, improving the health of occupants. Additionally, aspects such as thermal and acoustic comfort are optimized, creating a more pleasant and productive environment.
Certifying an office with EDGE is an excellent way to improve the company’s brand image. Consumers and employees increasingly value companies that adopt sustainable practices. Additionally, this certification reinforces the company’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility — a factor that carries growing weight among investors and clients.
If your company operates in multiple countries or has international projection, having EDGE certification is an important step toward meeting global sustainability standards. In addition to complying with local regulations, it ensures offices align with the best international standards in terms of energy efficiency, water management, and sustainable materials use.
EDGE-certified offices are not only more efficient but also more attractive in the real estate market. Energy efficiency and sustainable features increase property value — an additional benefit if the company decides to sell or rent the property in the future. Additionally, companies choosing sustainable spaces often enjoy greater demand from environmentally conscious tenants.
At SUMAC, we supported the IQ Encalada Corporate Offices, located in Lima, in obtaining EDGE pre-certification. This certification system evaluates the costs and benefits of incorporating sustainable measures into buildings, such as energy and water savings, contributing to the creation of more efficient constructions. The project will include bicycle parking areas and commercial spaces on the first level, fostering sustainable mobility and promoting service integration in the urban environment.
From SUMAC, we collaborated with our Sustainability Consulting services to help AstraZeneca Colombia’s Offices, located in Bogotá, obtain EDGE Certification. The AstraZeneca Colombia Offices have approximately 1,450 m² of built area, including office spaces, meeting rooms, innovation areas, recreational areas for employees, kitchenettes, bathrooms, cafes, reception, and other common spaces.
To achieve the expected savings, strategies were implemented such as: high-performance glazing windows, efficient HVAC equipment, low-consumption lighting, lighting controls, as well as low-flow fixtures in all spaces and construction materials with low embodied CO2 emissions.
At SUMAC, we provide sustainability and energy efficiency consulting services for the Banco de Crédito del Perú LAB, located in Lima, to obtain EDGE Zero Carbon certification. EDGE is a certification system for sustainable buildings that evaluates the costs and benefits of implementing energy and water saving measures.
This single-floor office project integrates various sustainable strategies such as LED lighting, efficient air conditioning equipment, solar panels, low-flow fixtures, and reused materials. It stands out especially for achieving zero carbon emissions, offsetting 24 tons of CO₂ through the purchase of carbon credits.
