SUMAC was the strategic partner responsible for guiding the LEED Gold certification process for El Hidalgo, by Andreu Logística, a distribution center located in Mendoza, Argentina. Through our sustainability and energy efficiency consulting services, we worked closely alongside the client to ensure the project met the highest international sustainability standards.

Located in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, the distribution center spans 14,493.73 m² and features 2 office floors and a warehouse. Its design was conceived to maximize energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, aligning with the highest sustainability standards.

“We consider it a great achievement to have obtained LEED certification for a logistics warehouse. This globally recognized certification highlights good construction practices in relation to environmental impact. This achievement reaffirms Andreu’s commitment to sustainable management from an economic, social, and environmental standpoint,” stated Leonardo Andreu, Director at Andreu Logística.

Key Strategies for Achieving LEED Gold Certification

The success of this project lies in the implementation of sustainable strategies across various categories of the LEED BD+C v4.0 certification. Among the most notable aspects:

  • Integrative process: SUMAC and Andreu worked collaboratively to achieve an effective design process.
  • Location and Transportation: Application of strategies such as reduced parking space, more efficient logistics, and land protection. Its strategic location also provides excellent accessibility to various transport options and services.
  • Sustainable Sites: Implementation of finishes to reduce the heat island effect, including a detailed site analysis to minimize environmental impact.
  • Water Savings: Implementation of technologies to reduce indoor consumption by 53.91%. Native species were maintained for landscaping, and low water-demand species were planted to avoid high irrigation consumption.
  • Energy Efficiency: Reduction of 70.4% in energy consumption, complemented by solar panels contributing 5% of annual energy consumption.
  • Materials and Resources: Implementation of a construction waste management plan, diverting waste from landfill and prioritizing reused and recycled materials.
  • Indoor Environmental Quality: Air quality management during construction with ASHRAE ventilation strategies, access to natural light, and maximized exterior views to improve occupant well-being.
  • Innovation and Regional Priority: Incorporation of advanced strategies such as a “green education plan,” eco-cleaning policies, and pest control for the operation phase, along with alignment with local priorities including heat island reduction and access to quality public transport.

A Commitment to the Future

The LEED Gold certification obtained by Andreu Logística reflects their commitment to sustainability and innovation. More than a recognition, this achievement optimizes the building’s performance and sets a precedent for future industrial initiatives in Argentina and the region.

At SUMAC, we drive the sector’s transformation, helping our clients reach new sustainability and efficiency standards. Thanks to our expert advisory, Andreu Logística not only achieved LEED Gold certification but also became a reference for sustainable industrial development.
