EDGE Zero Carbon certification represents the highest level of sustainability in the EDGE certification system, recognizing buildings that operate with zero net carbon emissions. At SUMAC we accompany organizations in achieving this ambitious goal, which positions them at the forefront of sustainability in the real estate sector.

What is EDGE Zero Carbon?

EDGE Zero Carbon is the most advanced level of EDGE certification, developed by IFC (International Finance Corporation). To achieve it, buildings must:
• Generate 100% of their energy from renewable sources (on-site or through certificates).
• Achieve at least 40% savings in embodied carbon in construction materials.
• Meet basic EDGE energy and water efficiency requirements.

Benefits of EDGE Zero Carbon

  • Carbon neutrality: recognition of the building as a zero net carbon emissions space.
  • Premium financing: access to green financing and impact investment at the best available rates.
  • Market leadership: positioning as a benchmark for sustainability in the real estate sector.
  • ESG compliance: alignment with the most demanding international environmental, social, and governance standards.
  • Long-term resilience: protection against rising energy costs and future carbon regulations.
