EDGE certification is one of the fastest growing sustainability certifications in the world, particularly in emerging markets where it offers a rapid and affordable path to green building recognition. At SUMAC we have guided hundreds of projects through the EDGE certification process across Latin America.

Step-by-Step Guide to EDGE Certification

Step 1: Preliminary Evaluation

SUMAC conducts an initial evaluation of the project using the EDGE App tool, identifying the combination of energy, water, and materials measures needed to achieve the desired certification level (EDGE Certified, EDGE Advanced, or EDGE Zero Carbon).

Step 2: Design Strategy

We define the specific sustainability measures to be incorporated into the project design, optimizing the balance between performance, cost, and constructability.

Step 3: Documentation

We prepare all required technical documentation: specifications, calculations, supplier certifications, and other evidence required to demonstrate EDGE compliance.

Step 4: EDGE Audit

An IFC-accredited EDGE Auditor (SUMAC has in-house auditors) reviews all documentation and conducts site visits to verify that measures have been implemented correctly.

Step 5: Certification

Upon successful audit completion, IFC issues the EDGE certificate, validating the project's sustainable performance.

SUMAC accompanies your project through every step of this process, from preliminary evaluation through final certification. Contact SUMAC and start your EDGE certification journey!
