The new Energy Efficiency Law introduces significant changes to the requirements for energy management systems that companies must implement to comply with current regulations. At SUMAC we help companies understand and adapt to these new regulatory requirements.

Key Updates to the Energy Efficiency Law

The latest updates to the Energy Efficiency Law (applicable in Chile, among other countries) introduce new obligations for companies classified as energy consumers with management capacity (CCGE). Among the most relevant changes:

  • Mandatory energy reporting: large energy consumers must report their annual energy consumption in the first 90 days of each year.
  • Energy Management Systems (EnMS): companies with consumption above 50 Tcal/year must implement an EnMS aligned with ISO 50001 within 12 months of being classified as CCGE.
  • Energy audits: periodic energy audits are required to identify savings opportunities and verify compliance.
  • Large company definition: companies with annual sales above 1 million UF and more than 200 employees are classified as large energy consumers.
